As part of its 50th Anniversary celebrations, the Rotary Club of Barbados has repaired the homes of two Barbadians who have disabilities - Belfield Hurdle who lives in Newcastle, St John (top picture above), and Cheryl Belgrave of Long Bay, St. Philip (bottom picture above).

The two residents were chosen from a list of candidates that were submitted by the Welfare Department and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

The Rotary Club of Barbados was chartered on March 7, 1962 and in its 50 years, it has undertaken projects that have benefited the elderly and the young, the handicapped and the gifted, as well as the environment. Projects have spanned the gamut from structural facilities for the physically and mentally challenged to access to pacemakers; from enriching senior citizens’ lives to providing leadership programmes in children’s homes; from hospital and hostel refurbishment to wheel chairs for the sea.

Some of the projects which the Rotary Club has supported include the Children’s Learning Centre, the Respite Care Centre, the Boview Home at the Challenor Centre and the Evalina Smith Ward at the St Philip District Hospital.
