Rajhmon Alleyne age seventeen years, has been a student at The Schoolhouse For Special Needs since September 2012 and recently transitioned to the schools adult program known as the Cottage Industry. Rajhmon is on the spectrum of Autism.
At the Schoolhouse, Rajhmon is encouraged to play daily and receives one-on-one lessons and group music therapy. His quiet, soft-spoken and gentle personality lends to a natural appreciation for this art form thereby creating a platform for his style of music which seems to come to him so naturally. This is reflected in his desire to play and his love for music. Rajhmon leads his schoolmates at Morning Assembly with The School Song and National Anthem. When visitors tour the school, they are treated to a musical rendition from Rajhmon.
Rajhmon's interest in music started at the age of three. After receiving his first keyboard, he began to teach himself to play by ear with some help from his preschool teacher. Later, he received further coaching from his Primary School teacher, who also played the piano and keyboard. She would place Rajhmon on her lap to enable him to reach the keys. As time passed he improved and was able to understand and play with more precision. He first taught himself to play the National Anthem of Barbados, Christmas Carols and other songs such as the theme from the movie Titanic. Rajhmon participated with confidence and pride in the Pianoman Concert which was held in the courtyard of the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre in December 2016.
On January 9th 2018 Rajhmon successfully completed the Trinity College London Grade 1 Piano Music Examination with a Distinction. Needless to say we are all beaming with great pride at his outstanding accomplishments.
